Rome Top 20 attractions

Colosseum

The absolute highlight of Rome is undoubtedly the Colosseum Amphitheater. Incidentally, your ticket to the Colosseum also applies to the nearby Roman Forum. If the queue in the Coliseum is too long for you, you can also visit the forum and visit the Colosseum later with your shared ticket. In my article about the Colosseum in Rome you can read all the important information to prepare for your visit!

Roman Forum

As mentioned above, you can perfectly combine your trip to the Coliseum with a visit to the Roman Forum. A must for anyone staying in the Italian metropolis. The Roman Forum is one of the most important archaeological sites in ancient Rome and used to be the religious, political and economic center of the city. Simply impressive, to imagine that the ancient columns and ruins of the forum were the center of life of the ancient Romans. You can not miss this!

The Trevi Fountain

Not far from the Pantheon is also the so-called Trevi Fountain, the largest fountain in Rome, which is also world famous. With its unique structure and seemingly natural connection to the Palazzo di Poli, it is one of Rome's most important attractions. Especially in the evening a real eye-catcher, when the water and the figures are lit up atmospherically.

Vatican city

The largest pope basilica in Rome is popularly called only the St. Peter's Basilica. The correct name is San Pietro in Vaticano (St. Peter in the Vatican). Here, up to 20,000 people find space to celebrate the most important holidays of Christianity. Admission to St. Peter's Basilica is free, but you must prepare for extensive security checks before your visit. However, the roof of the basilica or the dome designed by Michelangelo costs access.

Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel can only be visited during a visit to the Vatican Museums. However, no separate input is required. The detour from the museum to the chapel, however, must be accepted, because here you can admire the ceiling paintings by Michelangelo. Covering an unimaginable area of 520 square meters, they are filigree, larger than life figures from Christian history - including the famous "Creation of Adam by Michelangelo".

Piazza Navona in Rom Sehenswuerdigkeiten

A short walk will take you to the nearest station, Piazza Navona, where you will find three different fountains this time. For example, the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumoi in the middle of the square represents the four continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and America in the form of four rivers that flow into it. Exciting, right ?! In general, Piazza Navona is a very lively place in the center of the city. Here you can walk along street painters and traders and eat a bite or two before heading to the Spanish Steps in the north of the city.
